Christine Boyd is a shareholder in the Industrial and Consumer Product Liability Practice Group and Toxic Tort Practice Group in the Philadelphia office of Lavin, Cedrone, Graver, Boyd & DiSipio. She has concentrated her practice on defending automotive, aviation, vertical transportation, telecommunications, consumer product and equipment manufacturers. Ms. Boyd serves on the firm’s board of directors.
Ms. Boyd has successfully tried dozens of asbestos, product liability and negligence cases before juries in state and federal courts in PA & NY and serves as national coordinating counsel for thousands of lawsuits involving a major telecommunications company.
Throughout her career, Ms. Boyd has concentrated on the following areas of practice:
- Product liability: Jury trials in state and federal courts defending matters for hand tool, electrical and other equipment manufacturers, including handling all aspects of file development and investigation.
- Toxic/mass tort: local, regional, national coordinating counsel and trial counsel for Fortune 500 companies involving asbestos including retention and development of expert witnesses in industrial hygiene, epidemiology and risk assessment.
- Negligence and premises liability: trial counsel in matters involving fire loss, slip and fall injuries and other claims of negligence.
Ms. Boyd graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in psychology from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., where she was a member of the Psi Chi honor society. She earned her Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law. Prior to joining the Lavin firm, Ms. Boyd was assistant, deputy and chief deputy district attorney in the Bucks County District Attorney’s office and headed its rape unit. There she tried multiple felony jury trials involving rape, major fraud, robbery, arson and homicide.
Ms. Boyd is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Christine is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, The Trial Lawyer Honorary Society, and a member of the Trial Law Institute and Diversity Law Institute, in which she is a Barrister, Order of Juris. She is a long time PA Super Lawyer, an America’s Top 100 Attorneys Lifetime Achievement winner, a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and a member of America’s Top 100 Lawyers, Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys, Top 100 Civil Defense Litigators, Top 100 High Stakes Litigators, Elite Lawyers, 2022 and 2023 Women Leaders in the Law and Top 25 Attorneys of Pennsylvania 2023. She has served as Judge Pro Tempore for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and presides over settlement conferences in that role. She has participated in many CLE program panels both locally and nationally on substantive law and ethical issues. Ms. Boyd served as President of the Eastern PA Chapter of ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates) and is a representative to the National Board of ABOTA. She was ABOTA National Treasurer for 2020 and 2021, and is an elected Trustee of the ABOTA Foundation. She has served on the faculty of ABOTA Masters in Trial programs around the country, has served on the ABOTA National Executive Committee and as co-chairperson of several national committees. Ms. Boyd was honored with the 2022 National ABOTA Foundation Civics Education Award for her work in, and promotion of, civics education. She was on the on the faculty of the ABOTA National Trial College in 2022, at the campus of Yale University Law School.
She has been a member of many bar and defense-related industry associations: American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia bar associations; Temple American Inn of Court; Defense Research Institute; Pennsylvania Defense Institute; American Board of Trial Advocates; International Association of Defense Counsel; and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.
